Organizational Project Management Maturity (OPM3®) Overview PMO20.10

Successful projects within an organization do not necessarily make a successful organization. The Project Management Institute (PMI) recognized this and developed and issued a Standard on Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®) in 2003. It focused on the importance of the application of project management in an organization to achieve its goals and objectives. While each individual project must be completed by successfully applying knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques, all of an organization’s projects must provide strategic value.

PMI also developed an assessment methodology based on this standard and has a program under way to certify Assessors and Consultants using a robust assessment tool, Product Suite.  The purpose of this class is to provide an overview of the importance of organizational project management and to recognize the value proposition for an OPM3 maturity assessment.
