asapm Performance Rated Organization (aPRO) Assessment and Improvement Program

Organizations are constantly trying to improve their ability to successfully execute their critical projects. The ability to successfully execute projects on a consistent basis does not happen accidentally. It is the result of having an environment that supports projects and project managers. This includes many areas such as skill-building of project managers, making sure that projects align with organizational strategy, providing the right level of executive support, ensuring that the right resources are allocated to projects, etc. The aPRO assessment model recognizes this environmental aspect to successful project management.
The aPRO model was created by asapm, the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management. asapm is a not-for-profit professional society dedicated to advancing the practice of program and project management in the United States. asapm is the USA Member Association of the global International Project Management Association (IPMA).
The aPRO standard does not just look at your project management processes. It includes a holistic review of the entire environment, including
1. Aligning projects with organization strategy
2. Providing executive leadership to the management of projects
3. Ensuring adequate resources for projects
4. Developing project management talent
5. Ensuring a reliable framework for project management
The aPRO assessment will provide more practical information to organizations than most current assessment models, and it requires less time and cost from the organization and the assessor. It fits the scalable and value-add model that we have always advocated at TenStep.
TenStep is a Recognized Assessor (RA) for the aPRO standard. We will work with you on assessing your organization against the aPRO standard. This will require a series of interviews and questionnaires for senior managers, project managers and subject matter experts. We will look not only for feedback from key people in your organization but also documentary evidence to support the feedback.
At the end of the assessment you will receive a report detailing the findings of the assessment against the aPRO standard. You will see the areas that need to improve. We will also make recommendations for the areas that need to be improved to meet the aPRO standard and we will prioritize the areas that need to be addressed.
Organizations that successfully meet the criteria in the aPRO Standard will be eligible for official aPRO certification from asapm.
The ability to successfully execute projects is no longer a vision restricted to advanced organizations. It is now a core requirement for all organizations.
